Donut is fun!!

It's 2nd week of lecture.
There's been MMK in the Pocket D foyer to showcase what UTP has actually got,
essentially the societies and clubs.
I used to be manning booths there:
International Culture Club (ICC), Society of Petroleum Engineering Club (SPE)
and also I-Chem club
Huh, sparing "Boo-tat time"!!!
But this time around, I am retired.

One thing that excites me about MMK:

It was Pizza Hut in the old time.

My first ever Dunkin!!!
I tried on Chocolate, Strawberry and Blueberry. C and B were nicer.
That's was yesterday.

Today, I'm kinda at the tip of my luck...
Got 2 free Dunkins from Lee Teng & housemate fella...

Another big Donut Manufracturer, the Big Apple
It's available in Jusco Ipoh.
I'd ever tried once.
But couldn't help comparing Dunkin or Big Apple,
which is of better choice...

"Same shit Different smell"

Variety of Big Apple

Donut,
colorful
circle,
so much appealing,
real catchy stuff,
not only fill ya hunger,
but also satisfy ya craving,
BUT,

I would rather hold them in the hand

COZ
THEY ARE SO CUTE.

Had little blast last night...
Big day of a man.
Any idea who's he?

Right Diagnosis-->Right Treament-->Get-Over

This is House MD, one of the most watched English TV medical series.
For those who once thought to be a doctor but by some reasons you were deprived from it,
have a watch to satisfy your appetite, more or less.

Gregory House, M.D., is a maverick medical genius, who heads a team of diagnosticians at the fictional Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital in New Jersey.

So when a critical patient admitted to the hospital,
they will base upon the symptoms, carry out several tests, for example MRI or chemical tests, once the test indicates positive, they fix the illness without fail.

A point to make here:
Should you ever get emo,
(for example got dumped, got pissed, break-up...)
go to the medical lab for a diagmosis
as
(Right diagnosis, Right treatment, and You'll be alright)

If it's so, life would be easy, isn't it!!!

Man on FIRE

From some distance, the racket looks pretty fine. But it's thrown like that...Guess what?

It's broken.

Seeing it at the other angle. Whao, quite a damage, isn't it!

I was at the court, together with Tee Hooi who was waiting for some more friends to come.

The court was overly saturated with people. We just sat down watching some friendly matches....

That's racket, being a consequence from 2 OUTRAGEOUS team mates fighting....

(fighting to hit the shuttercock)

It all happenned too fast.
I didn't even get the logic of why 1 racket was so spoilt while the other is healthy like a horse.

Bugger's snap

Well, he isn't that bugger, just that pretty disturbing especially when come to the time I lie down on my bed, as though I wanna sleep is breaking the law of V5E 1,3,6.

Big surprise for him...Guess what's his response seeing this post...Go mad? Perhaps

Man, it's 12pm, NOT 12am; Sleeping like hell...
If got fire, can't you get up and run for your life, can you?

Oil abundance in the South China Seas

According to the US Energy Information Agency, the South China Sea has proven oil reserves of around 7 billion barrels while the US Geological Survey has estimated there may be another 20 billion barrels to be discovered. For its part, China optimistically claims the undiscovered reserves could top 200 billion barrels. This latter amount would be enough to provide China with one to two million barrels of oil a day, or as much as 25% of its current daily consumption of close to 8 million barrels.

Much of the undiscovered reserves are believed to be beneath the disputed Paracel and Spratly island chains. The Paracels are roughly equidistant from China, Vietnam and the Philippines; and both China and Vietnam as well as Taiwan lay claim to the islands. However, to Hanoi's outrage, it is China that actually commands the Paracel turf.

This has led to dispute over oil rights in the South China Sea. China has fired a stern warning shot across the bow of ExxonMobil Corporation. China is miffed that Exxon is seeking to enter into a deal with PetroVietnam to explore for oil in waters surrounding the disputed Spratly and Paracel island chains.

China has warned Exxon to pull out of the exploration deal, describing the project as a breach of Chinese sovereignty, according to the South China Morning Post at the weekend, citing unnamed sources close to the US company.

Chinese diplomats in Washington had made verbal protests to ExxonMobil executives in recent months, and warned them the company's future business interests on the mainland could be at risk, the report said. The protests involved a preliminary cooperation agreement, it said, without indicating when it was signed.

Restless Night

Was it due to tension by the quiz on the 2nd day of lecture? Gotta recap integration methods: Substitution, By part, Trigonometric integrals...so forth. Guess what did I have last night?

A bad dream...

A girl that I liked passes away in bizarre. The passing away was kinda destiny and very stupid. Erm...quite blurred about the scenario already. It's something like she accidentally fell into a pond and get drowned. Anyhow, the incident is so real. It's still haunting my mind after having waken up, blow away my mood of the day.

She is one of them. Which of them? You should have known it by now or you'll never got to know her. That's the secret I never tell.

My mum used to say that if you dream of something bad, tell it out to break the "curse". So i did here.

Anyway, I still hope to see the special "her" around being healthier and more charming than ever....

Also, No way that quiz can make me lost control. For heaven sake got the mare!!! True restless night...

Fight with Ulcer

What's more painful other than ulcer!!!

I had this freaking ulcer few days ago. This time, it's exceptional, as it's developed on the tongue, instead of gum. I was really suffering.

Brushing teeth, eating, drinking and even speaking were excruciating. My goodness, the affected area was so damned exposed. I've learned that every action brings consequence. I rather don't eat, don't drink and don't speak if I got it again. haha....

I thought of let it recover by itself. Perhaps it's a sign indicative to heat of my body. So, I took tonne of water but it didn't work. I couldn't take the pain any longer. So, i employed the ultimate--salt. I just put the raw salt on the affected area. It's no longer called pain. Instead, it's high. Tears came out, so as the saliva. I got S0-high for few minutes. Afterward, the ulcer slowly soothed down and it's gone eventually.

Believe me, salt remains the ultimate for ulcer.

PCS Intro

It's Professional Communication Skill, which is a course I'm currently doing. This afternoon we had introductory lecture on it.

Something went pretty funny. Here it goes:

Madame A was explaining about informative talk VS persuasive talk.

Madam A: Hey, can you give an example of informative talk?

Student X: Lecturing.

Madame A: Okie, what's about the persuasive talk? To make people buy your story, accept you or your idea.

Student Y scratched his head. Arhh... sweet talking. hahaha...true true true.

Student Y was sitting with Student K.

Student Y: Hey, I got an idea. sweet talking lol.

Student K: hahaha....geng, faster tell the lecturer.

Student Y just whispered it to Madame A was standing somewhere closed by but she didn't catch it. Or may be she pretend not hearing it.

After briefing, Student Y talked to his friend.

Student Y: Hey, just now when Madame was asking about the example for persuasive talk, I was about to say "sweet talking". It's somehow a beauty of lie., isn't it persuasive in nature?

Student Z: Lol, hahaha... what an example. Come on, you should have speak it out and after that register to her class. Then you can score PCS perfectly.

Student Y: Oh ya ho, probably can ask her out for a date. Can even score better...

Student Z: Yea, that's the way. Work smart. You're really creative. I think we had got too far already, made U turn lar. hahaha....

End of story...

(Extended version is not put up here...Keep pondering what's next...hahaha)

The Dark Knight

Yesterday, me and few fellas were down to Ipoh for it . As it's a pretty sounds movie and kinda new, the ticket sales was like hot cake. We barely bought 5 tickets, 12.30am, 3rd row from front, gotta suffer neck pain.

We went through pretty much tiredness for it to be midnight. Firstly, went to Jusco "欢喜地" for light dinner. The menu was so nicely designed and led us to misconception about how the food should taste. If you've ever tried out this shop, you should know what i'm supposed to mean. Roomed around Jusco. Sales was on, but i was able to curb impulsive deed, pretty cool right!! Or else get broke. Met up with Ang Khian and later went to Old Town Kopitiam.

Coincidentally, may as well as fortunately, we got to see a gang of shemales, gracefully suit-up, walk swingingly...kinda gently and charmed in fact. Tee Hooi wasn't very comfortable for losing to them in the sense of feminine. Well, easy Tee Hooi...hahaha....

Eventually, it's midnight. Much energy has been consumed, for walking, eating, listening, sighting, xxx-ing.

The movie was fine, interesting plots but a bit confusing, perhaps my mind wasn't working well to digest to its dynamic.

Mr. Joker who likes to see the world in chaos. Knife expert...few stories about how he got the scar at this mouth. One of them is " Why're you so serious". He's a real joke though.

Cool motorbike, enables Batman to get anywhere fast. Upon revelation of Joker, He
sped off to save Rachel, while Gordon and the police headed after Dent. Unknown to them, the Joker had switched the locations, sending Batman after Dent and Gordon after Rachel. Rachel died in bomb explosion.

The explosion was the turning point of the story. Harvey Dent was driven to madness over the loss of Rachel, which he blamed on Batman, Gordon and the Joker. The Joker freed Harvey and convinced him to exact revenge on the cops, mobsters, Gordon and Batman. From there on, he became "Harvey Two-Face".

The movie was kinda long, 2 hour +. I fell asleep towards the very end. Will have to rewatch from DcPlus.

Got back UTP at 4am, timely to fetch Carina from Main Gate.

Thankful

It was on my head for quite some time-->Hui Xiang. The chair, Kha Loon passed me the baton. Originally, it's was a mere visit without any good course. I's kinda conservative about the participation. In the end, the number exceeded expectation.

However, this very fine girl, Mei Le came out with idea of library make-over and scrapbook making. They are absolutely brilliant things to be done. I was kinda satisfied and proud over masterpieces by everyone, putting in so much effot.

Having moved out all new tables, about to start library turn-around.

( Before )

(After)
by Hooi Yee, Tee Hooi, Ang Khian & Jia Lin based on theme "Eight Planets in Solar system without THE SUN". Note as well the polisterene wording below.

Making signs to prompt people to library all the way starting from stairs. More than 10 signs were made. None is from me actually. It's Teik Hui, Gek Ling & Lee Teng who made them.

Books mending, Everyone involved...

It involved all tedious and tiring work: Cutting paper & polisterene, designs, double tapping...Anyhow, hope all these paid off if the kids can come here more frequently.

"Library should make me high", quoted by Mei Le, who less than seldom to go mamak. I respect her!!! In other word, get addicted to library or it's propriety like novels...
Hope the Liman fellows are somewhat like her.

We mended some books as well...also, repackaged the dictionaries, shockingly 19 of them. The funny part is that quite some works popped out when some subsidy was offered to us, which really freaked us out, Ang Khian in particular.

Wrapping up things, it's interest-meaningful trip for:
1. Made contribution to Liman people, hope things done are inspiring to their bright future.
2. Worked hard together and then had fun together. Believe, the order has to be "worked hard first and only have fun" and the key is TOGETHER. It feels great sense of togetherness.
3. Met up with the kids, playful, nuisance, but lovely.
4. Had a fair basketball game at Liman court with dried bird shit all over the floor.
5. Fruit season. My most favorite, Durian is so available for my "thirsty mouth". So damned stuffed with durian and can still made an Durian Party in UTP. Thumb-up experience.

Durian Feast!! ( Durian, Rambutan, mangostene and even papaya from Tee Hooi)

6. Very good rest at night (chilling, peaceful & qiuet and very physical weariness)
7. Yum Cha at this classic shop , Dang Gei. Melvin's so-called mother bought our bill.

Everyone, I am thankful for participating in Hui Xiang, contributed for the scrapbook...Really good memory, isn,t it?

Security fellows

They are people who are tremendously humorous.

There was once, I followed a friend back from dinner in his car. We were stopped at the main gate. One fellow forgot to bring her matric card. She was asked to made record at the log book. I was kinda busybody and followed her. Nonsensely, the security asked me to put down my name as well. Guess what happened? For my hair being overly long. For hell sake, I faked a name. In fact, my hair wasn't that long also.

In contrary, I highlighted my hair last semester. I was initially kinda freaked with security for they may issue me "coupon". I avoided them for quite some times only to find out it's not considered as crime for being "Dragan Ball Hero".

A bit longer hair and yellow hair, which weighs more?? My parents went for the latter. Faster vote...

Just now, it's 11.20pm, few friends ( KK, JJ, Josh, and Tay) were playing badminton. We were playing double. One from the lost pair will be substituted by the fifth man. I's unluckily happenned to be the fifth man because i went there late. Very soon, it's midnight. I's just about to get warmed up, 2 security came to shut the light off as it's 12am.

Slumber KK: kejap kami tutup lampu boleh? sebab 10 min lagi nak habis game.
It sounds persuasive to the security. They let us continued and stressed 10min saje.

My thought: 10 min is more or equal to 1 hour based on the security scale. Yet to be proven tough.

We kept on playing. Last match was worth to be noted. 2 Chemical guys won. It's 1.20am.

In the end, My thought was proven correct.

To justify the situation:
The security were being very nice and considerate to us. They knew we barely have time to come for sport...They actually took us none other than their children...I were thruthfully grateful!!!

Pls give ya best shot to agree with me about the above. Thanks...

Think before you say

Interesting QUOTE: "If wanna do, do the best; or else don't do".

So, I'm thinking:

For guy right, If wanna be guy, be the best buy, or else don't be guy. Erm ...very miserable lol ...

Same apply to girl.

Agree?

Dog

Is dog the best friend for human being, for its perfect loyalty? It can be true in accordance to Chinese Zodiac. However, it does not convince me quite much. I had 3 horrible experiences being after by dog, perhaps i just hate and forbia of mad dog or so called "Xial Gao".

Experience 1:
3 years back, i was looking for a friend, his name is Khai Feng. His house was deep inside forest, really!!! That's why his family kept some dogs to take care of things around. I knew that since long, but that day i was forced to go to his house to collect something for the picnic. I was fetching a friend behind my motorbike. Done with decribing the senario.

So, when i got closer to his house, the dogs, few of them caught me in their hungry eye. I thought to be cool only until the first bark, I seriously lost my mind. So, i quickly made a U-turn. The hell is that is that the dogs were by my side at that time...So damned fast...So i masuk minyak to the fullest...The one sitting behind even crazier. He just jumped and shoke the motorbike. Towards the peak of event, i was so closed to rode into a pretty deep river. To exaggerate it a bit, it's life and death experience. Then my friend dropped his specticle on the struggling way.

Experience 2:
It's early this year. I was looking for the same friend again, but for fun. He had moved to new house. For hell sake, AGAIN there's an unchained mad dog in his neighbood!! I thought to be cool. In fact I was really cool. I stopped in front of my friend's house and called my friend's name for couple of times, being stared by the mad dog. It's clear for me that it's a mad dog. My friend wasn't around, so i slowly rode away in order to prove to the mad dog that i was still cool and there is no way i can be thief. Haha...this phsychological trick in turn totally tricked me up. The dog was at first setting there, then on its knee and on it's feet and finally....coming after me. I captured the whole process and again masuk full minyak to escape. I made it though. It's really mad dog!!!!

Experience 3:
It's was last saturday night. I was fetching my friend home, the other friend. So, supposedly it's free of dog. Hell sake, 2 mad dogs appeared. I dropped my friend home d then i rode away. The dog freakingly turned to mad and went after me. The escape was better compared to previous 2.

Theory is proven. Dogs hatred me. Don't know how much, but can say not little!!! Sial Gao really freak me out!!!

Next up is Avril Lagvine

Avril sets to rock Malaysia as part of her “The Best Damn Tour: world tour ”THIS AUGUST...

Worth to spare time and $$ with this gifted young ROCK star, POP ROCK type...

"When you're GONE", nice, fit perfectly for me in person.

SLR

Erm...slr makes difference in differing fields!!

Single-Lens Reflect camera

The single-lens reflex (SLR) camera uses an automatic moving mirror system which permits the photographer to see exactly what will be captured by the film or digital imaging system, as opposed to non-SLR cameras where the view through the viewfinder could be significantly different from what was captured on film.

Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren

SLR stands for "Sport, Leicht, Rennsport" (sport, light, racing). SLR can achieve a 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 3.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 360 km/h (224 mph)

Gossip Girl

I recently have been catching up with this American TV teen drama. It's sort of recommended to watch.

The plot is happening, capturing scandalous world of Gossip Girl: a world where everyone is gorgeous, everything is fabulous, and jealousy and betrayal are everywhere you look.
Towards the end, quite lots of unexpected!

Several scenes of making out, it's still rated U anyway. hahah...

If another thing goes wrong and spotted (snapped), news is spred like wild fire via the Gossip Girl blog and everyone in the community will know right away.

"Truth always comes out,
it's a fundamental rule of time,
when it comes out, it can set you free, ends everything that you've fought hard for,
or otherwise,
it can lock you even further"

Tips on Badminton Racket

I recently bought a badminton racket. The purchase was kinda impulsive without proper survey because i didn't mean to do so when buying a sport shoes.

Anyway, it's Yonex Muscle Power 18, retailed at RM 130 + RM30 for Japanese made net of "Medium Feel" and RM 5 Dunlop grib for the handle. Among the specs includes: 3U, G4, string tension of 18 -22 Ibs, full carbon graphite, Isometric head-shape, also Made in "Taiwan".
After testing, it's kinda compatible with me (good enough la)!! Shall put up pic later on.

Check the followings to see what the figures mean.

So how to choose a Badminton Racket that suits you most?

Don't be overly economical. Weight comes with price!!

The lower priced rackets are usually quite heavy because they are made of cheaper material. You will tend to use more arm movements rather than your wrist to hit the shuttle if your wrist muscle is not strong enough. This will lead you to develop bad habits.

Heavier rackets are mostly preferred by players who have much stronger wrists and can therefore make use of the weight of the racket to extract more power from it. So unless you are in this category, I would suggest you purchase one that is not too heavy.

The weight should not exceed more than 100 grams.

A majority of racket manufacturers use 1U, 2U, 3U, 4U to indicate the weight of the racket,
1U being the heaviest and 4U the lightest.

The weight of high quality rackets range from 83 grams to 100 grams.

Most racket manufacturers provide four grip sizes. In Japan, they range from G2, G3, G4 to G5 where G2 is the biggest size and G5 is the smallest size. In some countries, the opposite applies. Some brands go by small, medium and big sizes.

Choose a grip size that you feel comfortable with.

Generally, attacking players prefer bigger grips as they need to hold the racket more tightly to generate power.

Players who like to rally and make use of deception usually prefer a smaller grip so that the racket is easier to turn in their hands.

Technical specs:

IsoFrame™ Head-shape
Powerblade™ IsoFrame™ oversize head geometry increases the length of the main strings to deliver an enlarged sweetspot and therefore ultimate power.

High Tension Frame/String
Higher string tension equals increases shot speed which equals reduced opponents reaction time.

Anti-Torsion Construction™
Convex carbon ridges positioned either side of the T-join increases racket strength in the throat area. This decreases torsional movement on impact with the shuttle and therefore offers both unmatchable control for accuracy of shot, as well as increased power. ATC™ technology is featured on Carlton's top 4 premium frames.

Powerblade™ Shaft
Aerodynamic shaft delivers ultimate power.

Flex System
Combines an ergonomic shape and dampening polymer at the point which connects the racket handle and shaft. This lowers the flex point on the shaft and therefore maxamise's 'recoil effect' on impact with the shuttle to deliver ultimate power.

Be proctective to your racket:

Buy a head-cover with your racket, and use it whenever you are not playing. Remember not to store your racket close to the central heating radiators, or leave it exposed to sunlight inside a car.

Incredible stuff---Digital Tattoo Interface

Check this out!!! It seriously blew my mind off...

This is how it works:

The DTI is a Bluetooth device that’s embedded under the skin that’s powered by blood and oxygen. For example, an incoming call will illuminate the display of a mobile phone on your arm and displays video while you’re on the call of the person on the other end. .

For more information, look out for http://www.physorg.com/news122819670.html

Enjoy.

Hydrogen production

Methods of hydrogen production:

Note: Consideration in the sense of economical competitiveness and environmental effect in relative to gasoline in order to be feasible.

1. Steam reforming of natural gas, sometimes referred to as steam methane reforming (SMR)

1.1 Most commonly used, least inexpensive, high temperature (700 – 1100 °C) and in the presence of a metal-based catalyst (nickel)

1.2 steam reacts with methane to yield carbon monoxide and hydrogen
CH4 + H2O → CO + 3 H2

1.3 Additional hydrogen can be recovered by a lower-temperature gas-shift reaction with the carbon monoxide produced.
CO + H2O → CO2 + H2

1.4 Efficiency of 70%. Require CCS (Carbon Capure and Storage or Sequestration)

Source:http://www.getenergysmart.org/Files/HydrogenEducation/6HydrogenProductionSteamMethaneReforming.pdf

2. Electrolisis of water

2.1 Electrolisis is splitting water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen using electricity from energy sources such as nuclear and renewable energy like hydropower and wind turbine.

2.2 Considering a power plant that converts the heat of nuclear reactions into hydrogen via electrolysis, the total efficiency may be closer to 30–45% for converting electrical energy into hydrogen's chemical energy.

2.3 Now researchers at GE say they've come up with a prototype version of an easy-to-manufacture apparatus (electolizer) that they believe could lead to a commercial machine able to produce hydrogen via electrolysis for about $3 per kilogram -- a quantity roughly comparable to a gallon of gasoline -- down from today's $8 per kilogram. That could make it economically practical for future fuel-cell vehicles that run on hydrogen.

2.4 "You can only make it so much more efficient; there isn't a lot you can do. So we've attacked the capital costs," says Richard Bourgeois, an electrolysis project leader at GE Global Research in Niskayuna, NY.

2.5 Electorlisis of water is emerging trend due to its sustainability.

3. Biological production

3.1 Bio-hydrogen can be produced in an algae bioreactor. In the late 1990s it was discovered that if the algae is deprived of sulfur it will switch from the production of oxygen, i.e. normal photosynthesis, to the production of hydrogen.

Hydrogen--Future Vehicle Fuel?

Driven by dwindling fossil fuel and deteriorating global warming, a more sustainable fuel economy will need to come into force in meeting the soaring energy required by virtue of growth of economy and population. Hydrogen fuel has been projected as one of the very promosing fuel economies with stiff competition with methanol, electric, solar, hybirc…etc.

Hydrogen fuel

Hydrogen is not considered a fuel at all as it does not come as a pre-existing source of energy like fossil fuels. Insead, hydrogen is best known as energy carrier, being a method of storing power generated any numbers of ways , such as battery.

PMI (Plus, Minus, Interesting) of Hydrogen fuel

1. Plus: Advantages of the hydrogen economy:

1.1 The elimination of pollution caused by fossil fuels:

When hydrogen is used in a fuel cell to create power, it is a completely clean technology. The only byproduct is water. There are also no environmental dangers like oil spills to worry about with hydrogen.

1.2 The elimination of greenhouse gases:

If the hydrogen comes from the electrolysis of water, then hydrogen adds no greenhouse gases to the environment. There is a perfect cycle -- electrolysis produces hydrogen from water, and the hydrogen recombines with oxygen to create water and power in a fuel cell provided that energy for electrolisis is generated by renewable sources such as wind turbine.

1.3 The elimination of economic dependence:

The elimination of oil means no dependence on the Middle East and its oil reserves.

1.4 Distributed production:

Hydrogen can be produced anywhere that you have electricity and water. People can even produce it in their homes with relatively simple technology.

2. Minus: Technological hurdles

2.1 Two major issues concerned:

2.1. 1 Production of hydrogen is usable form. This requires energy input.
2.1.2 Transporting, distributing and storing hydrogen due to its low volumetric energydensity at ambient conditions:

2.1.2.1 One-third of that of methane.
2.1.2.2 Even when the fuel is stored as a liquid in a cryogenic tank or in a pressurized tank, the volumetric energy density (megajoules per liter) is small relative to that of gasoline.

2.2 Limitation of hydrogen fuel:

2.2.1 Because of the energy required to compress or liquefy the hydrogen gas, the supply chain for hydrogen has lower well-to-tank efficiency compared to gasoline.

2.2.2 Compressing the gas requires energy, and compressed hydrogen contains far less energy than the same volume of gasoline. However, technology is advancing progressively. For example, hydrogen can be stored in a solid form in a chemical called sodium borohydride. This chemical is created from borax (a common ingredient in some detergents). As sodium borohydride releases its hydrogen, it turns back into borax so it can be recycled.

2.2.3 Construction of a network of hydrogen stations and the transportation infrastructure will not be developed around it until there is a storage technology that clearly dominates the marketplace. For instance, if all hydrogen-powered cars from all manufacturers used sodium borohydride, then a station network could develop quickly.

2.2.4 There might also be a technological breakthrough that could rapidly change the direction fuel economy. For example, if an inexpensive rechargeable battery with high capacity and a quick recharge time is created, electric cars would not need fuel cells and there would be no need for hydrogen on the road. Cars would recharge using electricity directly.

Once both of these questions are answered in an economical way, the hydrogen economy will be in place. Technological breakthrough is the determining key for Hydrogen fuel prospect.

3. Current facts:

3.1. The common internal combustion engine, usually fueled with gasoline (petrol) or diesel liquids, can be converted to run on gaseous hydrogen. However, the more energy efficient use of hydrogen involves the use of fuel cells and electric motors. Hydrogen reacts with oxygen inside the fuel cells, which produces electricity to power the motors. A primary area of research is hydrogen storage, to try to increase the range of hydrogen vehicles, while reducing the weight, energy consumption, and complexity of the storage systems.

3.2. A potential advantage of hydrogen is that it could be produced and consumed continuously, using solar, water, wind and nuclear power for electrolysis of water. Currently, however, hydrogen vehicles utilizing hydrogen produce more pollution than vehicles consuming gasoline, diesel, or methane in a modern internal combustion engine, and far more than plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. This is because, although hydrogen fuel cells generate no CO2, production of the hydrogen using reforming of fossil fuel creates additional emissions. While methods of hydrogen production that do not use fossil fuel would be more sustainable, currently such production is not economically feasible, and diversion of renewable energy (which represents only 2% of energy generated) to the production of hydrogen for transportation applications is inadvisable.

3.3. Efficiency as automotive fuel:

3.3.1. Hydrogen fuel :thermal energy efficiency of roughly 60% .
3.3.2. Gasoline: Well-to-tank 80 % efficient, requires less energy input at the refinery, and comparatively little energy is required to transport it and store it owing to its high energy density per gallon at ambient temperatures.
3.3.3. The most efficient distribution however is electrical, which is typically 95% efficient. Electric vehicles are typically 3 to 4 times as efficient as hydrogen powered vehicles.

4. Interesting: Methanol economy

4.1 Methanol economy advantages compared to a hydrogen economy:

4.1.1 Efficient energy storage (by volume) and also by weight as compared with compressed hydrogen, when hydrogen storage vessel is taken into account. The volumetric energy density of methanol is considerably higher than liquid hydrogen, in part because of the low density of liquid hydrogen of 71 grams/liter. Hence there is actually more hydrogen in a liter of methanol (99 grams/liter) than in a liter of liquid hydrogen, and methanol needs no cryogenic container maintained at a temperature of -253°C.

4.1.2 Required hydrogen infrastructure would be prohibitively expensive. Methanol can use existing gasoline infrastructure with only limited modifications.

4.1.3 Can be blended with gasoline (for example in M85, a mixture containing 85% methanol and 15% gasoline).

4.1.4 User friendly. Hydrogen is volatile and requires high pressure or cryogenic system confinement.

5. Controversy

Source: http://www.efcf.com/reports/E04.pdf

Type of car and corresponding Power plant-to-wheel efficiency

Fuel cell car operated on compressed gaseous hydrogen 22%
Fuel cell car operated on liquid hydrogen 17%
Advanced diesel-fuelled vehicle 25%
Battery-SOFC (Solid Oxide Fuel Cell) hybrid vehicle and Diesel fuel 33%
Electric car with regenerative braking 66%

The table indicates that the best option for local driving could be the electric commuting car with limited battery capacity for local runs. This might imply the introduction of a new mobility concept, but it does not require the creation of a hydrogen infrastructure. Family cars for longer trips would most likely become battery hybrids. Fuel cells or clean and efficient IC (internal combustion) engine operated on biofuels could serve as range extender. But pure hydrogen is unlikely to be used for this purpose because of the known storage problems the synthetic fuel is not suited for long distance travel. Biofuels are more likely to provide the energy for range extension. The vision would suggest electric power for local and synthetic liquid hydrocarbons for distant travel.
Statements claiming hydrogen fuel cell vehicles to be the best solution for the future transportation applications certainly need further validation. With respect to atmospheric pollution the two alternative options presented above are as benign as hydrogen fuel cells. However, both promise to have a much higher overall efficiency and economy. This is one of the mandates for the outgoing fossil fuel era and for a future Renewable Energy Economy.

"Hydrogen provides an ideal energy solution," said Daryl Wilson, President and CEO of Hydrogenics. "We believe that hydrogen will play a critical role in capturing the power of renewable resources and creating viable clean energy systems that are cost effective, sustainable and environmentally friendly. Hydrogen power is highly scaleable and ideal for storing large amounts of energy for long periods of time. In addition, hydrogen is multi-use and can be used to fuel vehicles and other industrial equipment, or even generate power for community electrical grids, with energy derived from renewable resources", added Wilson
